Visual Fields

A visual field test is performed to evaluate your central and peripheral vision to detect any blurry spots within these areas. This is most commonly recommended to people who have an immediate family history of glaucoma or have signs of glaucoma as it is glaucoma that can cause dysfunctions within the central or peripheral areas of vision. Stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure or an eyelid condition are also some of the other reasons why a field test may be carried out or reasons why an abnormal result may show.

Our Humphrey Field screener is the same as is used in hospital eye departments; investing in the same screener allows us to give a more detailed and comparable screening of your peripheral vision when needed.

Patients are often referred to us by their consultant for this procedure. You can request a visual field test for yourself at any time or the optician may recommend one as part of your eye examination with us if found necessary.
