OCT Scan
The Ocular Coherence Tomography scanner is one of the latest pieces of equipment that performs an advanced eye scan to show the different layers at the back of the eye. The OCT uses light waves in a similar way to and ultrasound scan which uses sound waves. It allows a retinal photograph and a cross sectional scan of the back of the eye to be done at the same time creating a digital photograph and a 3D image. The scan is quick, easy, non-intrusive and painless. The results are instant. Having an OCT scan with every sight test gives a detailed history of the condition of your eyes and any changes will be apparent straight away. Eye conditions can be detected more quickly than with a standard photograph, such as age related macular degeneration, diabetes, glaucoma, macular holes and vitreous detachments. The earlier these conditions are detected the sooner they can be treated improving the outcome. Mr Horrocks’ number one priority is the health of his patients’ eyes, investing in ‘high tech’ quality equipment allows him to analyse the health of the eye in greater detail. The results are instant allowing the optician to show and discuss with you what the scan shows.
The OCT scan is a chargeable service and not covered by the NHS.
